Nettles, like a humans, has the power to both hurt and heal, burn and ‘breathe’.
In these works the cellular structures of both human and nettle are referred to and burnt into the paper. Then nettle ink and human breath are blown across the works.
They refer to St. Hildegard of Bingen – a twelfth century abbess from Germany. Alongside her holy writings she also wrote “Causae et Curae” (Causes and cures) where she promotes holistic health through the connection between ‘man’ and nature through “veriditas” or “greenness”.
